I recently was making a lot of sock monkeys. My 22 mo. old twin grand daughters watched me intently when I worked on them. They used to try to stuff the monkeys when I laid my materials down. One of them even tried to tie off a foot on one of the monkeys. I knew then it was time for arts and crafts, so I made up sewing cards for them from poster board. I cut the poster board into small pieces, approximately 5"x8", then punched holes in them. I then cut long pieces of yarn, about 15". On one end I wound masking tape around it to make it stiff like a shoe lace tab, (about 1 and 1/2" at the end of the yarn.) That acts like a 'safe needle' for them to use. I taped the other end of the yarn next to one of the holes on the card. It's an easy enough project to make and easy for children that age to understand what to do.
