Well, we’re on the verge of another holiday… St. Patrick’s Day!
I know it seems a bit early, but I wanted to be able to get some good St. Patrick’s Day crafts in before it was time to work on Easter crafts. Both holidays are pretty close together. Besides, St. Patrick’s Day and all the crafts and activities that go with it are just plain fun… so why not start early!
Here are the directions to a really simple St. Patrick’s Day Door Hanger Craft made from a paper plate. It’s easy, economical, and can really be done at the spur of the moment when you have a few minutes to craft with the kids!
What You’ll Need:
- A Paper Plate
- Markers
- Scissors
What to Do:
1. Cut the paper plate to look like a pot with a rainbow coming out of it. Use the diagram below for clarification.

2. Draw a line to separate the pot from the rainbow for younger children… otherwise they won’t be able to visualize where the pot stops and the rainbow begins.
3. Use markers to color the rainbow and the pot. You can draw in a shamrock as we did in our example with markers as well.
When they get done coloring, show younger children how to hang their creation on a doorknob. Even my “bigger” child enjoyed doing this craft at age 7. This one was a big hit at our house!
If you want to jazz this one up a little bit, try adding some gold glitter or even gluing on some shamrocks cut out of green construction paper!
