Make Your Own Fall Leaves Craft
November 20, 2008
Here’s a neat idea that you can actually use with other projects.
In my area, the pretty fall leaves are just about gone… or at least they’re turning brown. Not really the best kind of leaves to use for Thanksgiving centerpieces and projects… so I thought you could actually make your own out of coffee filters!
Separate Colors in a Fall Leaf using Chromatography
November 3, 2008
Fall is a beautiful time of year with all the leaves are changing colors. Children wonder why it happens, so it’s a great opportunity to use the power of science to show them the separate leaf colors and to explain how the leaves actually change colors.
Top 7 Reasons To Paint Pumpkins
October 9, 2008
Pumpkins have always been a big deal at our house, even before we had kids. My husband and I used to have contests every year to see who could carve the best pumpkin. I always won. (My husband might have a different opinion about that.) Then one year I took the kids to a local farm where they sold really cute painted pumpkins for $30-$50 per pumpkin. Being a pretty crafty person, I decided that I wanted to try pumpkin painting on my own.

I saw this craft over at FamilyFun and thought you might like it as well!
It’s sooo easy that I should have thought of it myself.
First you’ll need a batch of salt dough. This is the recipe tha I use:
Quick and Easy Sunflower Crafts
September 2, 2008
Where I live, the sunflowers are hitting their prime… full of seeds and ready for harvest.
What more perfect time to do a few sunflower crafts?
One of my all time favorite sunflower crafts is to simply do a collage. Collect a bunch of sunflower seeds and let the kids glue them onto construction paper in any design they choose. The reason I like this craft so much is because just about any age child can enjoy doing it… even really big kids like me!
Here are a few more sunflower crafts you might enjoy… Read more
Watermelon Crafts You Can Sink Your Teeth Into
August 28, 2008
We have been waiting and waiting for our first crop of watermelons to come out of the garden and they’re finally here! In honor of our first successful crop of home grown watermelons, we thought we’d do some watermelon crafts too!

Magnetic Pencil Pockets as a Back to School Craft
July 30, 2008
Here in our area the stores are now full of all those Moms and kids scrambling to get their school supplies ready for the next school year. (Since we’ve decided to homeschool this year, we’re lucky enough not to be part of the back to school pandemonium.) All those back to school supplies can cost a fortune, so here are some back to school recycling crafts that might help take some of the edge off!
Can You Ever Have Too Many Butterflies?
July 22, 2008
According to my five year old, there can never be too many butterflies. In fact, she saw a commercial for one of those butterfly kits where you grow your own butterfly and begged me for one so she could add to our local butterfly community.
Her little face looked so sad when I had to explain to her that those butterflies would die when we released them because it was so late in the summer now (But maybe we could try it next year, I told her.) Then I found out that she wasn’t sad because she couldn’t grow her own butterflies this year… she was sad because other people would buy the kits this year and their butterflies would die. “Those people shouldn’t sell butterfly growing kits when the butterflies will die. Poor butterflies!”
We opted to make some clothespin butterflies instead!
Bugs Aren’t Enough… We Must Have Butterflies!
July 15, 2008
At my house we’ve been doing many of the bug crafts that I blogged about last week, but my five year old wasn’t very happy to be doing bugs… she wants to do butterflies. And what self-respecting five year old girl wouldn’t want to do butterfly crafts?
So now we have butterflies! Read more
Bugs, Bugs, Bugs… Everywhere!
July 9, 2008
At our house we’ve gotten a little extra rain, which is great for the flowers, but also has one big side-effect… the bugs are completely taking over! It doesn’t help that we are out in the semi-country and it’s hatching time for a lot of those annoying little critters.
We decided not to fight it… we’re doing bug crafts!
