A Few of My Favorite Valentine Crafts
February 11, 2008
I’m sure you already know that Thursday is Valentine’s Day, so this is probably the last post I’ll do for Valentine Crafts. I’ll be spending the rest of this week working with my kids on Valentine cards for school friends and getting those all important Valentine mailboxes ready.
Below you’ll find my personal favorite Valentine activities…
I also wanted to take a quick minute to thank you all for your great feedback on the blog… You are awesome! Have an absolutely LOVELY Valentine’s Day!
Heart Man - You’re bound to get a lot of giggles when you make a heart man! This continues to be one of my favorite Valentine projects… In fact, we still make them each year.
Love Is Patient Stone - This painted slate is really easy to do and makes a great gift. The slate is fairly inexpensive and makes a great project to do with older children or even as a special project with a scouting group. It’s the kind of craft that parents will keep and hang up all year long!
Silly Heart Head - You’re sure to get a big smile and a lot of silly behavior when you finish these little headbands. Kids just can’t help but act silly when they slip one of these on… Then they look at themselves in the mirror and see how silly these headbands really are.
Stuffed Hearts - These little stuffed hearts are a nifty little Valentine craft. Kids love them, you can make them simple or more complicated, they are made out of recycled materials, and they are just plain fun. I really love this project!
Krispie Kisses - I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like rice krispies treats. The basic recipe is below. You’ll need a batch of the basic recipe and a very small funnel. Make a batch of rice krispie treats and let it cool slightly so that you can handle it. Butter the inside of the funnel. Using your hands, pack the rice krispie treats into the funnel, then turn it over onto a cookie sheet to cool. There are a couple of variations on this basic recipe. You can dip your kisses in chocolate to make a more traditional kiss, but it is messy. You can also make them with love messages inside by writing a message on a strip of paper and stringing it through the small end of the funnel so that only part of it will be inside the kiss, then pack the cereal mixture inside the funnel.
Ingredients: 3 tablespoons margarine or butter, 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows, 6 cups rice krispies cereal
Directions: In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt margarine and marshmallows on HIGH for 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute. Stir mixture until smooth. Add rice krispies cereal, stirring until well coated. When slightly cooled, shape cereal mixture into desired shape using buttered hands, or lay out flat on waxed paper. Allow to cool.

Hello there from Croatia! I have an idea for valentine’s. I made this in my preschool class and the kids just loved it. you’ll need Styrofoam, tempera, long toothpicks, and some ribbon for a bow. you cut out heart shapes out of the Styrofoam, the kids paint them with tempera. when dried, you can write a message on them or leave it blank. u stick the hearts on the long toothpics and tie a bow with the ribbon. the improvisation is endless. you can decorate it with glitter glue, sparkles, write notes, stick photos… I loved this project and so did the kids. hopefully, the parents will as well.
we used the stuffed hearts idea from the site and used the hearts to decorate our dinning room in the school. it looks perfect! thanks!
love,
Lana
