Kissin’ Fish Valentine Bag, Valentine Mailbox, and Cornflake Hearts
February 6, 2008
Valentine’s Day is only about a week away, so many of you are probably working with your kids on creating valentine boxes and bags to collect all those Valentine’s they’ll get next week. Here’s a couple that we’ve done in our family before, as well as a Valentine recipe that my kids love!
Kissin’ Fish Valentine Bag - A lot of kids need to decorate a lunch bag for Valentine’s Day in order to exchange Valentines with their friends. This one is just a little different than the average bag and may appeal to boys a little more than the average “heart” bag.
Lovely Mailbox - When we finished this project, my son thought we could just take off our old mailbox and replace it with this one… He said our new pink one was prettier than our plain black one and the mailman might bring us more packages if we used this one instead. Oh if only it were that easy. This project is pretty elaborate and pictured at the right, so you’ll have to follow the link to see the complete directions for the project.
Cornflake Hearts - Not healthy in any way, but a fun treat for Valentine’s Day!
Ingredients: 1/2 cup butter, 3 cups miniature marshmallows, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp red or pink food coloring, 4 cups corn flakes, small heart candies (like the ones you find for decorating cupcakes in the baking isle).
Directions: Melt butter, add marshmallows, stirring until all marshmallows are melted. Add extract and food coloring; stir until it is a uniform red or pink color. When mixture is smooth, add corn flakes; mix well but gently so as not to crush the cornflakes. Form into heart shapes on sheets of waxed paper, decorate with candy hearts. Let cool.

These are great. Again I love this new forum.
I love the kissing fish bag. A lovely alternative for little boys and we can put the little fish on anything. This is a terrific site.
