A Couple of Pumpkin Craft Ideas For Halloween

Mummy PumpkinMy youngest daughter and I have participated in pumpkin decorating contests for the last couple of years, so I thought it would be fun to show you a couple of the crafty Halloween pumpkins that we’ve created together.

At the bottom of the page is a link to share your own special pumpkin or Halloween crafts… I hope you’ll tell us about your best pumpkin!

Here’s ours…

Mummy Pumpkin

We started by painting eyes on the pumpkin and letting it dry (although you could also use large wiggle eyes too). Then we wrapped it in cheesecloth and tucked in several large plastic bugs.

It turned out better than we thought it would and was a lot less messy than carving it or painting the whole thing.

We submitted this in a local school contest and won first place… which especially tickled our daughter who did most of the wrapping, even though she was only four at the time.

I think this is my favorite pumpkin of all time!

Princess Pumpkin

I think this one is probably my daughter’s favorite pumpkin… because it’s a princess of course!

As you can see, the “hair” is made out of evergreen boughs. The only reason I had even thought of using the evergreen stems was because we had just trimmed one of our bushes and the smell was everywhere… not to mention the mess!

Here’s how we made it… First, we painted a face on the pumpkin first and let it dry completely.

Then we gathered a couple of dozen stems from the tree we had trimmed and pushed the stem end into the pumpkin. This is how we made the hair. It’s actually pretty easy to push the stems through the pumpkin, but this part is best left to the grownup… it takes a little bit of finger strength.

My daughter really wanted her pumpkin to be a princess, so we made a crown for the pumpkin out of foam and wrote “Pumpkin Princess” on it.

She absolutely loved it and it won first prize!
