Cute Handprint Giraffe

handprint giraffeI saw this basic idea many years ago at a preschool and had forgotten all about it until my oldest daughter reminded me about it a couple of days ago.

We should have done this one when we were getting ready for a trip to the zoo!

Anyway, we think it’s cute and the kids love it anytime, not just zoo time.

This would make a great craft for a zoo theme, jungle animal theme, or just plain fun for a group craft.

What You’ll Need:

  • Construction paper
  • Yellow paint
  • Brown paint

What to Do:

1. Paint the child’s hand with yellow paint and stamp it on the construction paper with the fingers spread out. The palm forms the body, the fingers form the legs, and the thumb forms the tail.

2. Use the side of the child’s hand to make the giraffe’s neck.

3. Use a finger or thumb print to make the giraffe’s head.

4. Wash hands and let the paint dry completely.

5. Dip finger tip in brown paint and stamp on the giraffe to make the spots and the end of the tail.

6. If you want, you can also use a black marker to draw the eyes on the giraffe.

I love your magizine and my kids at the center love doing the crafts. However, we need some activities for 1 and 2 year olds. Anything with the hands and feet we can do with them. But we need something simple and easy for the to do besides color sheets and hands and feet. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Margaret

    Kim sent me this note:

“I just wanted to let you know that we did the handprint giraffe and it is adorable. We also did a handprint tree so it looked like the giraffe was eating leaves. We made the leaves with finger prints. They turned out cute.”

I love the tree idea… wish I would have thought of it!

Hi, I just wanted to tell you thankyou for your lovely ideas. I am doing the childcare course and I did this craft as my first activity and the children really loved it.
