Looking For Letter X Projects?
June 23, 2008
Coming up with good crafts and activities centered around the letter X has always been a tough one for me… there just aren’t that many things that start with X. Fortunately, many of you are much more creative than I am! Last week Claire was kind enough to send me a couple of her X-cellent ideas!
Claire’s Submissions:
For my 3 year old I did and “X marks the spot” treasure hunt. I made a basic map of our house and made several copies. On each one I drew a large X (in a different place). When they found the place in the house where the X was, they found another map with another hiding place marked with and X. I hope this makes sense. It was a huge hit.
“Bottle Xylophone” Collect some glass bottles with lids (green tea or sobe work great). Fill them with different amounts of water and let your child tap on them with a stick to hear the different sounds.
By the way, I thought some of you might be interested to know that I’ve finally made up my mind about the homeschool question… I’ve decided to give it a try for a year and see how it goes.
It was easy to make the decision when I received the children’s progress reports, quizzed them on a few of the thing that they had supposedly mastered (like telling time, counting money, specific science concepts, computer skills, etc.) and realized that my definition of “mastered” and their previous teachers’ definitions were very different.
So… another homeschooling family is born!

great idea i have used this one before–kids loved it!
I home schooled my 2 grandchildren for all of elementary school. It wasn’t easy at the best of times. I have never regretted doing this it made much better students when they finally finished, and went on to next school.
I had always wanted to homeschool my children and am very jealous of those who are doing. In the area we live in, places of interest are not readily available nor are they easy to get to without a car, but are through the local school, (which is a good one and well equipped). So good luck to you all who are homeschooling! I wish I was!
Hi!
I am a kindergarten teacher. Each year, we make an arts& crafts letter book. For the letter X, I make a large X on an 81/2 X 11 sheet of black construction paper. (The x is the block kind that you can fill in) The children cut it out and glue to a white paper. I then use Q-tips, for the bones of the X-ray man. Large ones for the legs and arms and cut up pieces for the ribs. The children then cut out a head and glue it to the top. It comes out really cute! Good Luck.
