Welcome to the *New* Kid Crafts Magazine!

January 31, 2008

Okay, you got me… Kid Crafts Magazine isn’t really new.  In fact we have been around for a little over 8 years now!

But how we will be getting our information out to our subscribers and customers has now changed.  From this point forward, we will be communicating with our subscribers through our new blog.

Yes, I know it’s going to tick some of you off and that we’ll lose some of our subscribers over this change, but I genuinely believe that this is a change for the better for both of us.

Let me explain…

You obviously like getting all the great crafts and activities that we send to your mailbox each month… otherwise you wouldn’t continue to subscribe.  Let me tell you right now, that isn’t going to change one little bit.  In fact, I believe that this new communication tool will actually provide you with more regular activities than you were getting with our old system.  You see, with our old system:

  1. I had to search the internet for great ideas for you and your child each week.  Sometimes this would take me many hours of work (but I don’t mind).
  2. I had to wait to show you all the ideas I found until I had enough to put together a newsletter.
  3. Then I had to compile everything into a newsletter, post it online, and then email you a note to let you know there was a new edition of Kid Crafts Magazine available.

Whew!  It was a lot of work!

Although I didn’t really mind doing the work, it took a tremendous amount of time to create a newsletter each week… in fact, there have been several weeks over the last year that I just wasn’t able to get Kid Crafts Magazine out for you.

I’m sure that didn’t make either one of us happy.

Under the new blog system, I’ll post new crafts and activities on the blog when I find them… no waiting.  When I’ve posted a new item, the system will automatically send you a quick note to let you know.

That easy!

You get what you want… lots of great crafts and activities for your child (or children) without the annoying popups and spam.

I get more time to find you more great crafts and activities — Oh, and my children will recognize their mom again!

Hopefully you’ll like this new system and you’ll see the benefit to both of us, but if you don’t, all you have to do is click on the unsubscribe button at the bottom of one of my emails and you’ll never hear from me again… but I hope you won’t do that!

The URL of the Blog is here at KidCraftsMagazine.com and there will be links to the individual projects… just like the old newsletter!

I am thrilled! I much prefer this method — I hope that you’ll make it possible to subscribe via Feedblitz (it’s free to do that) or add some options to put the blog into my RSS Feed Reader so I never miss a post!

Best of luck with this new venture!!

This is a wonderful idea. I really like the fact that other can not communicate with each other about how much we like this site and the crafts. Glad its easier on you also! God Bless.

    Chris!

Sounds great to me! Anything you can do to streamline and enjoy more time with your family is fantastic. I’m just grateful that you’ll keep the great ideas coming - and in a fun format. Could Debra H or someone tell me more about an RSS Feed Reader. I’m not a blogger or bloggee - but I will be now because I love your ideas for my work with very young children (my own 4 kids are almost all grown).

    Thanks, Chris!

Great! …No problem here. I am always looking for new ideas and you are doing the hard part so thank you so much :-)

  35. Vicki on February 1st, 2008 9:10 am

    Chris,

This is a very good idea. It will save us both time. The idea of adding the RSS feed is also good. I just don’t know how to do it myself. (hehe)

I provide child care in my home and am always looking for quick-to-prepare-and-easy-to-do crafts for my preschoolers. Thanks for all your ideas.

I look for activities that help the children grow and develop their social skills, language skills, pre-reading/math skills and small motor skills.

I also provide training to child care providers in my area.

Right now, I am preparing training for March 1st on LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT and need several activities the participants can prepare during our session and take back to their child care facilities. Any ideas to share?

I will provide all the materials to prepare these activities, so the materials must be things folks usually have on hand already rather than having to spend a lot of money for materials. (Most folks in child care just don’t seem to have a lot of money to spend.)

Thanks for your wonderful service. This new way of blogging your newsletter helps me feel part of a group — another wonder idea! Thanks!

  36. Janna on February 1st, 2008 9:16 am

I think it is a great idea also!!!!
Keep up the good work! Thank you for
this work. It helps a ton!

  38. Wendy on February 1st, 2008 9:56 am

HI, I am really excited about this new option. I think it will work well for everyone. I have a 2 year old I use a lot of the craft ideas with, but more than that I work with childre 0-5 years old and I have gotten a ton of inspiration and ideas from your emails. I think the blog will only add to that.
Thank you so much for all you do.
    Wendy

  39. Emma on February 1st, 2008 10:02 am

    Brilliant idea.

  40. Lana on February 1st, 2008 10:36 am

Awesome! I can’t wait! So, you’ll just continue to let us know, or? Thanx anyhow! Your ideas have been a life savior many many times. I teach in a daycare center in Croatia and I teach English to the same kids. Even the parents love the crafts we make.
Can’t wait for the new stuff!
    Tank you again!

Love the fact you’ve changed into a blog!

    Some additions I would recommend:

    1) post a more prominent subscription link or icon at the top of the blog
    2) fix the feed so that it is not “untitled”
    3) Add an archives or article index to the side bar

  43. Anne & Morgan on February 1st, 2008 3:53 pm

    Great idea! I love it!

More time to craft with kids, priceless!

It is so nice of you to share your creativity to begin with. Around christmas or January I realized that I hadn’t received a kidscraft email in a while. Of course I started to think that maybe you’d stopped doing it, and panicked… no more crafts!! It’s such a releif to know that you’re still here. You really have no clue how many people you help through this website. Alot of us would be lost in the huge world of crafts without your direction. Thank You so Much!!!

  50. JillSF on February 12th, 2008 11:36 pm

Sounds like a great idea - will you send a letter giving us the blog address or have I missed it somewhere?

  51. Sandy on February 25th, 2008 4:01 pm

I am from the older generation, but still a teacher and I need a lot of crafts to go with lessons I have. I am getting more technical as I go, so this will be interesting.

  52. Debra on February 27th, 2008 11:59 pm

Family is always first! I am glad you will be able to find the balance between family and the newsletter. I love all your great ideas. I use some in our homeschool and some for my 1st grade Sunday School class. Thanks for your time and effort. God Bless you and yours.

  53. Sharon on February 28th, 2008 9:25 am

Yes Chris, I agree totally. Otherwise, how will our kids learn that life is not a free ride? You want the privileges of life, you have to earn them and like anything else, if you start them early, you don’t have as big a battle on your hands as you do when you start introducing them later on. Good topic.

  54. betty on February 28th, 2008 3:53 pm

I firmly believe children need work ethic early in life and having 5 it was a necessity with both parents working out side the hom therefore preparation, responsibility and discipline helps them become better for the scoiety they will be entering as adults. Thsnks so much for the crafts which help my sundayschool class and toddler grandsons

  55. Dolynn on March 5th, 2008 10:19 am

I believe your children are most important in your life and needs all the time you can give them. They grow up way to fast, and I am all for the new idea so you can spend it with your children.
I am older person who volunteers with kids and have really enjoyed your crafts. You have been a lot of help to me.. Thank you for all your ideas and time. I could never give those kids so many nice idea’s without you.

Got something to say?
