Summer Crafts at Kid Crafts Magazine
It is so hard to get these summer issues out on time... The sun is shining... the birds are singing... you get the idea. Here are some great Summer craft ideas you can do with your kids.
Best Wishes and Happy Crafting!
Little KidTM Crafts
Fly-Catching Frog - Simple craft where you can transform a simple party favor into a fabulous toy frog that can flick its tongue just like real ones do when they try to catch flies.
Sunshine Handprint Craft - This is a fun and simple handprint craft that makes a great rainy day project during the summer. You can also sing the Mr. Sun song or the You Are My Sunshine song while making the craft.
Sunglasses for Me - The summer sun is bright and hot. Ease the glare with these cool shades made just for you! Fun to make for kids of all ages, easy to manipulate foam makes this a great summer project!
Unforgettable Elephant - I included this craft, even though it might be a little hard for the youngest kids, because it's sooo cute. When complete, this little elephant actually squirts water out of his trunk. Now what little one wouldn't love that?
- Sun Windsock - This one is made out of fun foam, but you could use this same basic idea to make your windsock out of a paper plate, cardboard, or construction paper to save some money and make it more "little kid" friendly.
Crayon Resist Pictures - This idea is really easy to use with whatever theme you want. Simply draw pictures on construction paper (or water color paper) with crayons. Be sure to press hard with the crayons to get the best pictures. When the picture is complete, paint over it with your choice of water color paint. The crayon will resist the paint and make a neat picture.
CD Sun Catchers - Decorate both sides of a CD any way you want with glitter, paint, stickers, etc. (You can use the one's that you get free in the mail) Tie a piece of fishing line through the center hole and hang it up.
More Challenging Crafts
Picnic Perler
Bead Magnets - These Perler bead magnets are adorable! Stick one on your refrigerator to hold your notes this summer.
Fancy Flip Flops - During warm weather months, your children live in their flip flops! Take an ordinary pair and jazz them up with fancy feathers or brightly colored buttons.
Fish Yarn Bug - Got a favorite fish? Make a yarn bug fish that looks just like him (or her!) The one they show for an example looks like Nemo.
Macramé Bracelets - The groovy macramé I remember from 20 years ago is back in force, and I must admit I prefer this reincarnation. Woven from sleek hemp twine, rather than jute, it looks earthy and cool. And, when strung with beads (either store-bought or made from seeds and shells), it also makes a perfect bracelet for a best pal.
Painted T-shirts - Kids absolutely love painting their own T-shirts! You might be able to do this project with younger kids too, but you'll need to supervise a lot more.
Miniature Sundaes - Girl scouts have been making these for years! Make delicious-looking doll-sized ice cream sundaes. You can serve them to your favorite teddy bear or glue on a pin for SWAPping. Younger kids may be able to make these too... with a little help.
Melted Crayon Jars - These jars are both pretty and useful containers for such things as flowers, pencils, and odds and ends. They are fun and easy to make and each one is different.
Personalized Plant Pokes - Children love to dig in the garden and grow something to call their very own. Make it official by creating personalized plant pokes that tell the world just who did all that work!
