Mother's Day at Kid Crafts Magazine

I can't believe that we're already coming up on Mother's Day! Where does the time go?

Okay, I have to admit that Mother's Day crafts aren't my favorite. I guess it's because I wouldn't normally help my kids do crafts that they would give to me as presents.

However, I recognize that a lot of you work with children that aren't your own and would like to get some great ideas on creating gifts that they can give to their mothers. We even have some crafty Dads out there who like to help their kids make Mother's Day crafts. I've done my best to pull together a lot of great resources for you... I hope they help!

Best Wishes and Happy Crafting!

Little KidTM Crafts

  • Guess How Much I Love You Card - This is a very simple card to make that is guaranteed to get a big smile from Mom. My daughter brought one of these home to me when she was two and I keep it in my scrapbook.

You'll need 2 sheets of construction paper, a pencil, glue stick, and scissors. Trace each of the child's hands onto one of the sheets of construction paper. Cut out. Fold the second sheet of construction paper in half like a card. On the outside of the card write, "Guess How Much I Love You..." Glue each of the hands to the inside of the card so that they are facing out. Between the hands write, "I Love You This Much!" Happy Mother's Day! I made a template for the card, so all you have to do is cut out the hands, print out both sides of the template, color and put together.

  • Danielle's Place for Mother's Day - This page is an absolute treasure trove of great craft ideas for Mother's Day. There are several cute cards to choose from, as well as some great gifts that kids can make for Mom. I'm including this resource in both the "little kid" and "big kid" section because there are so many great ideas here.

  • Hand-Warming Mug - Moms will absolutely love this very special keepsake! This one is ideal for younger kids because they have smaller hands, but it's definitely not a craft that they can do on their own. I wish I had made these when each of my children were about two!

  • The Me and You Book - This is a fun gift that will probably give Mom a chuckle when she sees some of the ideas about Mom that her little one comes up with. Just print out the book pages, answer the questions or draw a picture, and put it together. This one is really easy to do with a group of kids. There's also an online video version of this craft that is a little bit different that you may want to try.

  • Homemade Bath Salts - You're bound to get a lot of giggles when you make a heart man! This is one of my favorite projects and we still make them each year.

  • Coffee Filter Flower Bouquet - I know that the coffee filter flower craft is a bit overdone, but this one is a little different because you actually cut the filters to make them look like real flowers. Younger children will need a little help with this, but it's really pretty when done.

  • Fingerprint Cards - This Mother's Day craft project is rated for ages 3 and up, but I think younger children will need a little guidance on this or you'll just have a bunch of fingerpaint scribbles. When controlled, these make great Mother's Day cards... plus they are very inexpensive.

  • Mother's Day Handprint and Poem - A sweet poem to give to Mom along with a handprint. I made a template for this craft to make it really easy to do. All you have to do is print out the template onto construction paper or cardstock and provide the handprint.

More Challenging Crafts

  • Danielle's Place for Mother's Day - This page is an absolute treasure trove of great craft ideas for Mother's Day. There are several cute cards to choose from, as well as some great gifts that kids can make for Mom. I'm including this resource in both the "little kid" and "big kid" section because there are so many great ideas here.

  • Box Photo Album - I don't know any Mom who wouldn't appreciate getting a mini-photo album for Mother's Day. This craft comes complete with step-by-step instructions and diagrams.

  • Mother's Day Sit-A-Pon - This is a really nice idea for the Mom who likes to garden. I also like this Mother's Day craft because it's something that Mom can really use!

  • I Love You Frame - This project looks expensive, but it's not. It's made completely out of Perler beads.

  • Popup Bouquet Card - Mom will really appreciate how much work goes into making this card -- and it's really pretty too!

  • Helping Hands for Mom - Give Mom a helping hand with a bouquet of special things you can do for her! She can redeem them whenever she needs a little help around the house, yard or just a big bear hug.

One other small note (although it's pretty big news for us!)... We're working with a new author to bring you a new activity book just in time for Summer. Her name is Becky Dansen and she has five children ranging in ages from 3 to 12.

Her new book will be titled: 101 Kid Summer Activities - Kid Tested Activities to Keep Them Happy, Engaged, and Entertained and I think it's going to be great! After all, who else would know better how to keep kids actively engaged than a mother of five?!?

We'll let you know when her book is ready!
