President's Day Crafts at Kid Crafts Magazine

I know it's a little early for President's Day crafts, but I wanted to make sure you had plenty of time to plan out your craft schedule for February. President's Day falls on the third Monday in February... this year it's only a few days after Valentine's Day.

It was really tough to find any crafts for older children centering around President's Day... but I did come up with a few. If you're hard up, you may be able to adapt some of the crafts for younger children and make them more challenging for bigger kids.

I hope you find some useful President's Day crafts here... Enjoy!

Little KidTM Crafts

  • Mini Stovepipe Hat - This mini stovepipe hat looks just like the one that President Lincoln wore and it's really simple to make.

  • "Edible" Log Cabin - Another super-simple President's Day craft project. This isn't something that kids will be able to keep, but it's a fun little project that will let them play with their food!

  • Presidential Powdered Wig - Not only will the kids have fun making these wigs, but they'll have a blast wearing and playing with them. They are just too fun! Even younger children can get in on this one because they are so easy to make.

  • Simple Paper Log Cabin - Younger children really won't understand what President's Day is all about... most can't grasp the concept of what a President is, but they will enjoy the idea of building a log cabin on their papers.

  • Toilet Paper Tube Abraham Lincoln - The craft is made with a toilet paper tube, a printer, a piece of paper, some crayons, scissors, and glue. It's quick and easy! In case you would rather do a toilet paper tube George Washington, click the link.

  • Presidential Coin Rubbings - Give the children quarters, nickles, and pennies. Have them put the coins President's face up. Lay a piece of paper on top and rub them with crayons to create a rubbing of the coins. You can use any coin with a presidential face since President's Day includes all the Presidents.

  • Three Cornered Hats - Cut three 12" X 3" strips of construction paper. Staple the ends of the strips together, forming a triangle. We made these with one strip of each color: red, white, and blue. We also glued a white feather to one side of the hat. I have also seen these with a couple of pieces of yarn glued to the back of the hat to make it look like a small pony tail was hanging down from the back. Kids love any craft project that they can wear!

  • Cherry Tree Craft - This is a super easy craft that you make by tracing your arm, coloring it, and then adding some fingerprint cherries.

More Challenging Crafts and Activities

  • Presidential Mobile - This is a really easy to do mobile that looks great when it's done. It makes a nice way to honor our most notable presidents on President's Day. I've even included a printable bust of Lincoln and Washington to use for this craft project.

  • Presidential Powdered Wig - Not only will the kids have fun making these wigs, but they'll have a blast wearing and playing with them. They are just too fun!

  • Meet The Presidents - This is a great online resource where kids can learn interesting facts about each one of our US presidents. This was put together by a school in Sleepy Hollow, NY.
