Fun Children's Quotes at Kid Crafts Magazine

I thought it would be fun to do something a little different this issue since so many of us are tied up with end of school year stuff.

I hope you get a little giggle out of this too!

Who's the Boss?

For some reason, my kids decided to have this conversation the other night at dinner time. They couldn't figure out why my husband and I thought it was so funny.

While I was in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on dinner, the kids and Dad were setting the table, filling water glasses, etc. My six year old asked, "Daddy, you're the boss of the house, right?"

Before he could answer, my three year old answered, "Daddy is definitely the boss of the house."

Then the eight year old chimed in, "But only because Mommy put Daddy in charge."

Shopping With Kids

Have you ever felt like this? I sure have!

A man observed a woman in the grocery store with a three year old girl in her basket. As they passed the cookie section, the little girl asked for cookies and her mother told her no. The little girl immediately began to whine and fuss, and the mother said quietly, "Now Monica, we just have half of the aisles left to go through; don't be upset. It won't be long."

Soon they came to the candy aisle, and the little girl began to shout for candy. And when told she couldn't have any, began to cry. The mother said, "There, there, Monica, don't cry--only two more aisles to go, and then we'll be checking out."

When they got to the check-out stand, the little girls immediately began to clamor for gum and burst into a terrible tantrum upon discovering there'd be no gum purchased. The mother patiently said, "Monica, we'll be through this check out stand in 5 minutes and then you can go home and have a nice nap."

The man followed them out to the parking lot and stopped the woman to compliment her. "I couldn't help noticing how patient you were with little Monica," he began.

Whereupon the mother said, "I'm Monica -- my little girl's name is Tammy."

Toddler's Creed

We saw this at the doctor's office this week and realized that it sums up the typical toddler perfectly!

  • If I want it, it's mine.

  • If I give it to you and change my mind later, it's mine.

  • If I can take it away from you, it's mine.

  • If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.

  • If it's mine it will never belong to anyone else no matter what.

  • If we are building something together, all the pieces are mine.

  • If it looks like mine, it's mine.

Resignation as an Adult

I've included this last little story because I like the sentiment... especially since Summer Vacation is almost upon us. I have no idea who the author is, and it's a little sappy, but I like it. I'm planning to tender my resignation for the Summer (at least as much as is possible) and really enjoy the summer with my kids.

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult:

I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8-year old again.

I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four-star restaurant.

I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks.

I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them.

I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.

I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care.

All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.

I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good.

I want to believe that anything is possible.

I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.

I want to live simple again.

I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.

I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So, here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood.

And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause "Tag! You're it!"
