Creating friendship pins has become very popular for school age kids over the last few years. They are fairly easy to make and are a great way to show a friend that you value them. It has also become very popular for scouting groups and other similar clubs to swap pins with other groups.
Basic Friendship Pin Instructions
Here you'll find the basic instructions for creating these pins from safety pins and beads. Once you get the idea, you can check out some of the individual designs below. Keep in mind that each set of designs has it's own size requirement for the safety pins and the beads.
You'll Need:
- One large safety pin
- Several small safety pins
- Seed beads
- Needle nose pliers
- Small flathead screwdriver
What To Do:

Once you choose a particular pattern to use in your design, you’ll need 10 to 15 small safety pins and one large one. Open each small pin and put the seed beads onto it. Once all beads are in place, close the safety pin. Repeat this step until all the safety pins are beaded for your design.
Open the large pin and use the flathead screwdriver to pry apart the coils slightly. Put the loop of the first beaded safety pin onto the large one and push it all the way around to the other side of the pulled apart coil and to the back side of the pin. Repeat for all the smaller beaded pins.
Once all the smaller pins are on the larger one, use the pliers to squeeze the coil back in place. Pin the large safety pin to clothing, shoes, etc. That's it!
