Featured & New Crafts

With Memorial Day just a week away, I tried to put together some crafts appropriate for the holiday... not an easy task. Being a veteran myself and having a husband in the military, this holiday holds a special place for us. However, I suspect that this year it means a lot more to a lot of people. Let's not forget that Memorial Day is about more than an extra day off and the start of the summer season. Enjoy the crafts!

  • Memorial Flower Arrangements - Use small containers such as small clorox bottles, milk containers, or plastic containers for plants, green foam for flower arrangements, cheap plastic flowers used or new, and small inexpensive american flags. Make small flower arrngements for the veterans in your family. Take them to the cemetery and place on graves. If you do not have any veterans close to your home on Veteran's Day or Memorial Day. then find a couple at an old cemetery and place your arrangement on a couple of graves. This teaches respect to your children for American Veterans. ~ Submitted Anonymously

  • Uncle Sam Hat - This is an easy printable craft to make a patriotic hat like the one Uncle Sam wears.

  • Craft Stick Flag - This is a simple-to-make US flag made from craft sticks. Since this tiny flag does not have the correct number of stars and stripes, explain to the children that the real US flag has 13 red and white stripes (that represent the original 13 colonies) and 50 stars (that represent the 50 US states).

  • Red, White, and Blue Bracelette - This is a simple paper bracelette made by accordian folding strips of paper.

  • Lincoln Penny Pendant - Make a Lincoln Penny Pendant that you can wear to celebrate President's Day, Veteran's Day, July 4th, or any patriotic US holiday.

  • Patriotic Bird Feeder - This craft is a little bit more difficult, so you'll definitely have to help little ones with it. It's made out of a Pringle's potato chip can and paper plates, and it's really cute when it's done!

  • 3-D Stars - This is an easy printable craft to make three dimensional stars that will stand up on their own on a table or you can tie a string to them and hang them from the ceiling.

  • Patriotic Ribbon Dance-Along - An easy craft for kids to do made out of a paper towel roll and ribbons. You could also use streamers for this one. This is a fun one because it's a great "toy" that will keep the kids busy a good long time playing with it!

  • Patriotic Coloring Pages - There is a long list of coloring pages and posters related to memorial day on this page. Just print and color.

  • Patriotic Windsock - You can make a patriotic wind sock from an oatmeal box, construction paper, string, and crepe paper streamers.
